The nostalgic era of Windows 10 is on the verge of its definitive closure, as Microsoft has set October 14, 2025, as the deadline to receive updates for its old operating system. This imminent shutdown has led to a notable migration of users, particularly gamers, towards Windows 11, whose adoption continues to rise.
Steam clarifies how the migration is taking place
According to a recent report from Steam, the percentage of players using Windows 11 has reached 57.84%, representing an increase of 2.5% compared to March. In contrast, the market share of Windows 10 has fallen to 38.09%, highlighting a clear trend towards the new operating system. Many users are driving the upgrade in hopes of keeping up with the latest performance and security patches, thus avoiding the risk of cyber threats due to the lack of technical support.
Gamers who are still operating on Windows 10 are at risk of becoming vulnerable, as security updates will no longer be delivered to their devices. This becomes especially critical in the current context, where updates are essential to keep systems protected against increasingly sophisticated cyberattacks.
In addition to the transition to Windows 11, hardware has also undergone a significant shift. The most popular graphics cards among gamers are the NVIDIA RTX 4060 for laptops, standing out among other options. Regarding the configuration, 16 GB of RAM has become the most commonly used, along with 250 GB storage units and standardized resolutions of 1080p, demonstrating that gamers are seeking optimal experiences in their gaming sessions.
As the deadline approaches, the migration is expected to continue, and many may be forced to upgrade their systems to avoid falling behind in the competitive world of gaming. While there are discussions about the future of Windows 10, the message is clear: upgrading to Windows 11 is essential to ensure smooth and secure operation in the new era of video games.
