Nowadays we use e-mail for almost everything. For this reason it is quite common to receive advertising by this means. This advertising, in general, is sent en masse to large distribution lists and when our address is on the list we receive the messages. Aware of the situation Apple has provided a convenient system so that we can ask those responsible for these lists to remove our address and, therefore, stop receiving the mailings.

How to use the unsubscribe feature on your iPhone, iPad or Mac

The process starts when the Mail application algorithm detects that a message is coming from a distribution list. When it detects it, it informs us of this and will offer us the option to unsubscribe. The steps are as simple as this:

  1. Open the Mail app on your iPhone, iPad or Mac.
  2. Open an email from which you want to unsubscribe.
  3. Tap the Unsubscribe button at the top of the message.
  4. Confirm by tapping Unsubscribe (OK on Mac).

Once these steps have been completed, there will be no indication of the success of the process. We will simply find in our Sent mailbox the message that has been sent requesting the unsubscription.

Each email distribution service handles these notices differently. In some cases we will receive a message asking us to confirm that we want to unsubscribe, in others we will receive a confirmation that the unsubscription has already been processed, in others we may not receive anything. In the latter case, we can always contact the company that sent the e-mails to confirm that the unsubscription has been completed.

Just as the Do Not Disturb mode allows us to stop notifications, the possibility of unsubscribing from e-mails is a simple and at the same time very useful function. If we receive too many advertising emails in our email, just as we can clean our iPhone, we have the tools to manage it.
