Toyota is set to unveil its new electric SUV, the bZ5, in China on June 10, entering the competitive electric vehicle (EV) market with an eye on affordability.
Priced at 130,000 yuan, or approximately $18,000, the bZ5 aims to attract budget-conscious consumers, vying for market share against more established players like Tesla.
Powering the bZ5 are two BYD Blade battery options: a standard 65.28 kWh pack and a larger 73.98 kWh variant, offering impressive ranges.

The higher-capacity battery is expected to deliver up to 630 kilometers (391 miles) on a single charge, while the standard version boasts a range of about 550 kilometers (342 miles), according to the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC).
The bZ5 showcases a modern design, featuring a distinct hammerhead front end, sleek LED headlights, and a pronounced full-length light bar. Measuring 4,780 mm in length and equipped with a spacious interior dominated by a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, the vehicle incorporates advanced tech, including Momenta 5.0 smart driving technology.
This system leverages 33 sensors to offer over 30 assisted driving features, ensuring a seamless driving experience.
Initial reception for the bZ5 is strong, reminiscent of the rollout of its predecessor, the bZ3X, which generated over 10,000 orders within its first hour of availability. With a similar positive outlook, the bZ5 is expected to capture the attention of potential buyers eager for an affordable, feature-rich electric SUV.
As the EV price war intensifies, the bZ5โs competitive pricing and robust feature set position it as a viable contender in the market. Analysts speculate that the bZ5 could be a game-changer for Toyota in the fast-evolving electric vehicle space, particularly if it mirrors the success of the bZ3X.
