There are still several months to go before the arrival of the iPhone 16, but the rumors are already in full swing. The latest ones indicate that the company plans to introduce a significant change in the way we interact with our phones, especially when it comes to photography and videography. The news that the iPhone 16 will feature a new capture button is generating a lot of interest, and it seems that it is not without reason.
A new button that comes to change everything
The information published by The Information reveals several details about this button. Unlike the usual capacitive buttons, this one will be mechanical, responding to both pressure and touch. It may seem like a minor detail, but with this configuration, it promises a much more intuitive and direct interaction with the device.
As we know, we will be able to perform a series of gestures on this button to control the camera. We can zoom in and out of the image by sliding our finger to the left or right, focus with a light pressure, and start recording with a firmer press. A multipurpose functionality that undoubtedly evolves the current system, making it more natural and, to some extent, bringing it closer to what many conventional cameras offer, especially in terms of focus.
Apple has been meticulously studying the location of this button. According to rumors, it will be located on the right side of the iPhone, just below the power button. An ideal position for easy access with the finger when the phone is held in landscape orientation, but also accessible for a vertical photo, directly with the thumb. Apparently, to accommodate this new button, the mmWave antenna on US models will move to the left side of the device.
According to The Information, Apple believes that the capture button will be a key selling point for the iPhone 16 lineup. With this new addition, Apple aims to strengthen the iPhoneโs position as an alternative to traditional cameras, especially for horizontal video recording.
Having said all this, it is important to remember that we are still in the early stages of the design phase. It is true that Apple needs to finalize these aspects as soon as possible in order to start preparing for manufacturing, as the whole process takes time, but there is still room for changes. Beyond the small details, with the new capture button, Apple will improve both the functionality of our iPhone and its potential to, even more, approach professional cameras.
