Soon you’ll be able to send your photos and videos in HD by default through WhatsApp

WhatsApp has announced a new feature that’ll allow users to send photos and videos in high definition (HD) by default, as reported by Android Police. Until now, users had to manually select the HD option every time they shared multimedia content, which made the process complicated. This update aims to simplify it, giving users the option to always send photos and videos in HD, without having to select the option each time.

Previously, some users resorted to attaching multimedia files as documents to avoid WhatsApp compression, an impractical and quite tedious solution. After many pleas and complaints from users, last August WhatsApp implemented sending high-definition photos and videos. Now, this option can be set as a default if the user desires.

Android Police has identified this new default setting in beta version 2.24.13.10 of WhatsApp, suggesting that the feature will be available worldwide soon. However, WhatsApp warns that HD files consume more bandwidth and storage space than standard options.

Although HD-marked elements still lose some resolution in transmission, it represents a significant improvement over WhatsApp’s standard compression, which often distorted the quality of images and videos.
