Transferring your profile, saved games, and digital purchases from your original Nintendo Switch to the new Switch 2 is a quick and seamless processโas long as you follow the right steps. Nintendo has simplified the transition with a built-in tool that ensures you donโt lose your digital progress or favorite titles.
Start system transfer on Switch 2
After beginning the setup on your new console, youโll see the option to start a system transfer. Select this to begin. If youโre using a microSD card, ensure itโs a compatible microSD Express model, as older cards wonโt be supported by Switch 2.
Sign in using your Nintendo Account
Next, use your smartphone or tablet to scan the QR code shown on your Switch 2. This will allow you to sign in quickly and safely import your user profile. Once you enter the verification code, your avatar should appear, confirming the login.
Bring both consoles close together
To ensure a stable connection, place both the original Switch and the Switch 2 side by side. Plug in each device using its official AC adapter, as third-party power sources wonโt support the transfer process.
Begin the transfer on the original Switch
On your original console, go to the system settings, scroll to โSystem,โ and select โSystem Transfer to Nintendo Switch 2.โ Once you confirm, the data transfer will begin. Transfer time depends on the amount of saved content, so be patient.
Finalize and get ready to play
After the transfer is complete, press OK and explore the new consoleโs setup options, including choosing between handheld or docked play modes. Keep the device online to allow game reinstallation.
