Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is being released on iOS, Android and Windows Phone throughout today. The violent 2005 sandbox game arrives a year after GTA: Vice City was also brought to mobile devices.
The game is currently available on the App Store worldwide, but weโre still waiting for it to appear on the Google Play store. On iOS it requires an iPhone 4S, iPod Touch 5th gen, iPad 2 or newer device. It weighs in a 1.5 GB, which isnโt bad for such a huge game that is supposedly better looking than the original release.
GTA: San Andreas comes with support for external controllers, as well as a redesigned touchscreen control system. While todayโs mobile phoneโs can easily run a game like San Andreas, Rockstar has so far failed to get touch controls right in its GTA ports. Both GTA III and Vice City were spoiled by awkward controls, so weโre hoping they are better this time round.
Itโs easy to forget how much of a big deal San Andreas was in 2004. The game world is huge, and it was the first time a GTA protagonist could swim or be customized. San Andreas is full of mini games and activities to keep you entertained while youโre not following the main storyline, which itself is an epic journey through its three cities and countryside.
