However, recent rumors suggest that Apple may be considering the inclusion of advertising in its maps service, a decision that could significantly affect the user experience.

According to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, the inclusion of ads in Apple Maps could lead to certain businesses being promoted in search results, favoring those who pay to be highlighted.

How this decision can ruin Apple

This change could result in users finding a Wendyโ€™s when searching for โ€œfrench fries,โ€ instead of a better-rated local option, simply because the latter did not pay for advertising.

This is not the first time Apple has explored this possibility. In 2022, Gurman reported that the company was considering integrating ads into its navigation app, although those plans did not progress at that time. Now, with the trend towards monetization through advertising in other Apple apps โ€”such as Stocks, News, and App Storeโ€” this topic has gained new momentum.

Although Apple has shown a greater commitment to user privacy than Google, there is uncertainty about how it will handle advertising without compromising its reputation.

An Apple user, who already pays a premium for the companyโ€™s hardware, might feel disappointed to be bombarded with ads in an app that should make it easier to find places and services. If the implementation of this advertising is perceived as unsatisfactory, it could lead some users to seek alternatives to Apple Maps.
